Illinois is a large state. It is also a state with a heavy population anchor on the northeast.This population anchor has a bad spending habit. So bad that it constantly comes to the state government to pay its bills.
In my lifetime it seems this is a bad habit that has always existed. The 2023 census states that Chicago has a population of about 2.6 million people. The suburbs have about 6 million people. This leaves the rest of the state is around 2 million people. Perhaps this explains how Chicago can fleece the state of Illinois.
Illinois cannot live this way. If Chicago wants to spend at a level, they must do it on their own. If Chicago can not contain their spending habit, then they must be split off. The rest of Illinois should not have a cut of their pay go to Chicago.
It is time for tough love!
